I walked the Frances route in mid April 2015 and saw the lovely, large world map made from various vegetation, located on the downhill after leaving the hilltop village of Cirauqui. It was awesome. I walked the route again at the same time this past spring, 2017. I was with newbie family members, telling them excitedly that we would be coming upon the map soon...but unfortunately it was not planted this year. Very dissappointing.Hello everyone
I walked with a lady last May who told me of a field on the Camino that was made to look like a world map.
Does it still exists and where exactly is it. Cheers Tony
Very interesting...thanks for sharing that, Laurie!I had never seen that, but I did a little googling and it is pretty amazing, kind of like the Nazca lines of the Camino.
Turns out it was made from old tires in honor of World Environment Day in 2012.
After the tires went in, there was planting, I guess inside the tires. The guy interviewed on the youtube said that it would be moved in several years, but he didn't say where it would go!
Love that the song they use is "We Are the World".I had never seen that, but I did a little googling and it is pretty amazing, kind of like the Nazca lines of the Camino.

Hi Marilynn, so was the map there this year because I must have walked right past it.I, too, was disappointed to see that the map had not be planted this year. It was always amazing to see the world in the field when you came upon it.
That is a gorgeous picture! It is even prettier in the fall with no plantings than the one I submitted with foliage!I took this one in September 2012. Would have loved to see it planted!

Me too, missing it!Way Cool! Glad I made it by on a very hot August day last year. Thanks all for sharing this and it's nice to know the 'story' behind it. Now, I'm missing it!
Thanks for sharing the YouTube video link. I saw this feature in 2016 and for some reason it popped into my head this morning. I was wondering why we never see photos or references to for the map and now I know why as it was removed.I had never seen that, but I did a little googling and it is pretty amazing, kind of like the Nazca lines of the Camino.

It was there in 2016, was gone by 2017Walked by it in January of 2020, it wasn't there. Don't know if they moved it or if plan on replanting it etc.
Yes, I can imagine that it was a lot of work!I heard, from this forum I think, that the farmers had agreed to leave the map in place for five years, then remove it. I miss it! Apparently it was a lot of work to maintain.
It is incomplete!View attachment 36907 My map photo taken in April 2015.
I hadn't noticed that before, but you are correct as there is no NZ....blame the farmer! It is incomplete!
Sometimes it is good to be inconspicuous, it means that we can get on and do stuff without being noticed. BTW, had you noticed how NZ is changing the world?I hadn't noticed that before, but you are correct as there is no NZ....blame the farmer!
Not specifically, except many around the world admire Jacinda.Sometimes it is good to be inconspicuous, it means that we can get on and do stuff without being noticed. BTW, had you noticed how NZ is changing the world?

Don't blame the farmer; he couldn't find anything pretty enough to plant there.I hadn't noticed that before, but you are correct as there is no NZ....blame the farmer!
