My husband and I will set out on the Camino Frances on August 29! I was going to go it alone but my husband became so excited for me that he decided to join!! Now, the pressure of finding the "right" hiking shoe and assorted equipment.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
We will start in St. Jean. Only walking to hunto the first afternoon to ease jet lag. Then walk to Burguete the following day. At least that is the plan for now.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Welcome Loretta, that is a fantastic time to walk.

Safe travels and Buen Camino to both of you!

Welcome @Loretta S, I'm glad your husband had changed his mind. I was hoping mine would ... but he didn't ;)
Spending a night in the mountains is a great choice if you have the time.
Enjoy
Suzanne :)

Welcome to the forum and great decision to break up the first stage!

As far as shoes, well, that's the age-old argument.
My advice is if you HAVE boots and are a boots wearer or if you need ankle support, fine.
But otherwise, I've been quite happy walking the Camino all these years in a pair of New Balance trail shoes with a deep, wide toebox.
But do a search, read all the threads, and decide.

Bascically, if I cannot wear them out of the store and onto the trail, they aren't the right shoes.
You should not have to "break them in."

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Welcome, Loretta! Your plan is a nice way to break up the first big day.
The 'right' equipment means that it's what you're comfortable with. So no pressure. In the end, if you find you're missing something at the last minute, there are shops in SJPP that carry pretty mcuh anything you could possibly need.

Welcome to the forum! Where will you start?
I have had the bug for the past 2 years and something deep inside is telling me to do the Camino. I wake every morning thinking about this. Next year I AM DOING IT! I have limited time so going to do Sarria to Santiago.
Do I go it alone, do I buy a package? any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Any other helpful hints would be appreciated.

Welcome Michael!

A vast majority of us here have done it on our own with no problems and added flexibility. I like to have the flexibility to stop when I want and where I want. Some days are tough due to the terrain, sometimes due to the weather, and sometimes due to my health. Sometimes I come to a pretty town and want to spend more time there. I would not do well with the structure that an organized group may need and I always average between 25-30 euro per day eating what I want and staying in albergues. I don't thing I could afford or justify paying for an organized tour either. Good luck with your decision.

Buen Camino!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
