We are starting our camino in Lisbon and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a hostel that is pilgrim friendly or similar to an albergue. We are quite social so hotels really aren't our scene and we like staying in albergues and meeting other pilgrims.

We're also planning on staying in the newly opened albergue 20 km outside Lisbon for a easy start and we were wondering if we need to be booking ahead for our beds over the month of July or will we find a bed easily enough?

Any advice welcome. Thanks everyone.

This Is Lisbon Hostel.

If you want a small inexpensive pension try pensao da prata. Great location near great little cafe. Clean basic and family run. You can use booking.

Annie has a lot more tolerance for youth hostels than I do, since she is the younger hipster of the pair. :).

And if you start from Lisbon, remember that there is now an albergue in Alpriate. I'll have to ask ViaLusitana for an update on how it's going.

When i did the camino portuguese last year in Lisbon i stayed at johne's place Lisbon hostel. Good location 10 mins walk to cathedral and a beautiful building with good facilities and quite a small hostel. They have heard of the camino but only that, u would miss breakfast if you want an early start. You just need to find your way to the cathedral for the start / credential. I was sick that night and they looked after me great. I do recomend this hostel.

This Is Lisbon Hostel.

It is actually a good place to stay in Lisbon.

It is very close to the Igreja de Santiago (your first carimba if it is open) which is a natural starting point in Lisbon.

It is situated high up on the hill with great views over Lisbon and it is easy to walk down to the Se cathedral and get another Carimba.

Yes, you will find a bed in Alpriate. It's a small Albergue but we have some 'back up' beds available if needed.

Good to have you with us.
Thank you. Really looking forward to meeting you.

Sorry guys, what is the name of this hostel. I searched for Lisbon hostel and found a few with these words in the name.
