Yep, I'm bringing one too. But based on what others have said, I'm going with a metal one and not a nylon or plastic one because the soil and can be quite rocky and compacted in places.
 
I will be bringing one as well. It's the least I can do and the one I've been looking at is aluminum and only weighs 100g.
 
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I found a 93g garden spade at walmart for 84 cents. Carried it on the Camino Portuguese, but fortunately my body cooperated and I didn't need it. But I was glad to know it was there.
