Getting back to Santander from say 20 miles short of Leon

Time of past OR future Camino
Not decided (may 20th2015)
Please can you give us some advice? There's seven of us. We will be starting our Camino on the 20th May from Burgos towards Leon. On the 26th we need to get back to Santander for our flights home. Can anyone tell us the best way back? Is it possible to hire a mini bus to take us back. What's our best options? we can't really predict how near we will get to Leon.

Many thanks

Not long now - really wish we had done more training!

Hi, you can probably catch a regional bus into Leon, or maybe even organise a taxi into the city from your final albergue stop. Alsa provides buses from Leon to Santander and even to Santander Airport: the journey takes between 4h30 and 6 hours, and costs €16-€36 depending on time of day (it's about 300km so would be very expensive by taxi!)

There are buses throughout the day, just go to the Alsa.es website to check (tick "consulta sin flecha" to see all the options, L M X J V S D = Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun!)

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
That's absolutely great to know that. It sounds as if a bus would be the best option and it sounds as if there will be enough for there to be one that will suit. That's very reassuring -thank you so much for your help.

Best wishes
Anne

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
You're welcome! :) I've travelled a lot by bus in Spain and the service is usually very punctual and reasonable… Only thing is, given the length of the journey you might need to spend a night in Leon or Santander, depending on time of your flight of course!

Assumption: You will make it to Fromista at least.

Renfe
Fromista to Santander or
Sahagun to Palencia and Palencia to Santander (note if you try Sahagun to Santander the website will not give comprehensive results because the route is more than 90 degrees of change in direction ...

ALSA bus from either of Carrion de los Condes, Sahagun, Mansilla de los Mulas, etalia to either Leon or Osorno and from either Leon or Osorno to Santander. Try looking at the itinerary for a bus from Leon to Osorno and it will show all the stops.

Hello there and please accept my apologies for not responding sooner - I forgot to check. We are just back from our Camino. We got the train in the end from Sahagun to Santander via Palencia. It was a good service and cost 40 plus Euros. Best wishes Anne
