From Atapuerca towards Leon

Time of past OR future Camino
June 2022 and June 2023
Hi folks
I am planning continuing the 3rd leg of my Camino in June starting out from where I left off last year in Atapuerca - one stop short of Burgos. All in all I have about 10 days and allowing for flights and transport that makes a maximum of 8 days walking. I will probably take a break around half way as a rest day and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to where to take the break. Somewhere west of Burgos where you can see a bit of the sights. Thanks

Lots to see and then again not that much to see. Some towns you can see in a 15 minute walk. Some iconic simple albergues on this stretch. (The ruins at San Anton, San Nicholas, Santa Maria at Carrion de los Condes, Santa Cruz in Sahagun). Also some wonderful simple albergues run by volunteers between Sahagun and Mansilla de los Mulas. There's castle ruins at Castrojerez. An iconic church in Fromista. I do really love the meseta for its simplicity. Maybe walk shorter days to enjoy what's there rather than taking a rest day? Or make it to Leon to see the sights there. Burgos is also very cool.

The ruins at San Anton are simply STUPENDOUS!
There is a castle at Castrojeriz... of course you gots to climb up to it (if yu didnt get enough that day...but some people do climb)
AH the San Martin in Fromista - totally awesome church and then, again, there is El Chiringuito Del Camino with the best Darn Iberian Ribs I have ever had!

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Be sure to take the river route into Burgos. There is so much to see in Burgos, it really needs a week at least, but, if you can only spare one day, spare it in Burgos.

I have discovered that the approach that suits me best is to be as informed as I can but then see what each day - and the Camino - provides.
I’m in the ‘shorter days rather than whole day off’ camp. I find this enables me to really engage with and appreciate so may things in my walking day - a tree, a river, a chat with some locals in a small village, a meditation inside or beside a church …. and also do some of the ‘must sees’.
I think my next Camino will be a return to the CF so your question has been useful for me.
Buen Camino

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
