Just trying to work out the logistics for a Via de Plata camino. Anyone have any suggestions for an economical, quick or interesting way to get to Sevilla from Paris--would arrive at CDG about 11 am, mid-March.
Thanks.

Madrid would be a much better arrival point than Paris....if that is still possible.
Easy fast trains from Madrid to Sevilla.
But if Paris is where you will be then maybe someone can help. Not a short trip.
Maybe you could walk??

Yes, I probably will succumb and fly to Madrid-the issue is that I cant get a direct flight there, whereas I can to Paris. I'm not a fan of stopovers, but in this case it probably is the best thing to do--besides I like trains.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Paris (Gare de Leon) to Barcelona (Sants) is 6.5 hours SNCF/Renfe ... I think there is a transfer Renfe/SNCF but the Renfe site says its direct.

Barcelona to Seville (Santa Justa) (with transfer at Madrid) is 5.5 hours.

Thanks Whariwharangi-- When add up the cost of all of these options, I am probably better off to suffer through
the stopover flight.... will be faster and much cheaper in the long run. The train from Madrid to Seville (or a flight)
wont cost a whole lot I imagine. Can I catch the train from the Madrid airport?

how about flying transat from toronto to london and separate ticket london to sevilla.

buen camino.

Actually, you take a short shuttle to terminal 4, take an elevator downstairs. The Renfe sales office is right there. A quick ride on the metro train, right in front of the Renfe office, to the train station.

Not quite right at the station but you don' t have to leave the area to be on your way.
Piece of cake.

if madrid barajas airport is your destination, you can catch the cercanias, the commuter train to madrid atocha station to connect with the train for sevilla. there are many high speed trains that go to sevilla daily. example price for 15th of march at 1300 hour is 28.70 euros. duration of 2 hours 35 minutes. this is the cheapest price that i have found.

good luck on your planning.

Just to give you another idea think about flying through Amsterdam Schiphol. I have flown direct to Sevilla, Madrid and Barcelona. KLM, Transavia and Easy Jet have competitive prices. As an indication I checked for March 10
and Transavia has an evening flight Amsterdam-Sevilla for 59 euros which is cheaper than the train!
If you don't know it check out the
app skyscanner. It scans ALL possibilities which is not the case for sites such as Cheaptickets.
Good luck sorting this all out!

I was able to find tickets with Transavia from Paris Orly to Seville for 40 Euro 29 Jan 2014. Its a discount airline.
Disadvantage is it doesn't appear to travel daily (at least in January). Ryannair flies from Paris (Beauvais) same date 39.99 Euro. (I have no idea where Paris Beauvais is (yet)) Prices go up as seat availability goes down so if you book early enough its the cheapest way to go. Si yo fuera tu ... fly with Transavia ... My one experience with Ryannair led me to believe I was in a neverending flying television commercial.

The airport in Madrid is called Barajas (MAD). There are 4 terminals. T1, T2, and T3 are connected while T4 is reached via shuttle.

Information about the shuttle to T4 is located here
http://www.aena-aeropuertos.es/csee...554331229//Connections-between-terminals.html

Connections to Madrid include subway (Metro) and light rail transit (Cercanius). The Metro has stations at T2 and T4. The trains run every 6 - 12 minutes. Cercanius has a station at T4 and runs every 30 minutes.

Madrid Cercanius (operated by Renfe). http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/cercanias/madrid/index.html

Madrid has two major train stations; Puerto de Atocha and Chamartin. You will need to know which station your train is leaving from.

Puerto de Atocha is reached by Metro. Take line 8 from airport T1-T2-T3 or T4 to Nuevos Ministerios; line 6 to Cuatro Caminos; and, line 1 to Renfe Atocha

Chamartin is reached by Metro. Take line 8 from airport T1-T2-T3 or T4 to Mar de Cristal; and, line 4 to Pinar de Chamartin.

The Cercanius train goes directly from T4 to Chamartin and subsequently to Puerto Atocha. Since it operates (vice every 6 minutes for Metro) every half hour.
There is a free shuttle to T4 from the other terminals (edited)

I've actually taken the train from Paris to Sevilla.
It was a long trip, but was the trip that encouraged me to find the Camino.
The landscape we passed was spectacular and when my doctor suggested long-distance walking, I looked for a trail in Spain.
That said, it was a long trip. Going from Madrid would make more sense if you just need to "get there."
But I did enjoy it.

Thanks to all, a few good ideas here, will revisit info at booking time--not quite time yet.

Mid-March is only 8 weeks away! Will you be in Santiago for Easter? I hope to walk, thinking of late April start but no definite plans can be made yet.

Yes, my plan would likely involve flying out from Santiago Easter weekend. Should be able to confirm everything shortly, I hope.

Hey whariwharangi, thought I would run this by you again. I now know that I am landing in Madrid, with Lufthansa,on march 9 at 11:40.
So, I want to catch the train to Seville asap. So I need to know which station I am leaving from, at what time and how to get there. I assume I am going to Seville, Santa Justa (staying at Triana Backpackers). Trying to book online tho it's getting a bit late. Thanks.

There are 14 trains going from Madrid Puerta de Atocha to Seville Santa Justa from 1100 to 2135. Travel time 2:30.

Enter Madrid-Puerta de Atocha as Origen. If you enter Madrid* you will get a confusing long list of repeated entries involving transfers.

You get to Madrid Puerta de Atocha as described in my earlier post.

Thanks, like others, I seem not to be able to get the Renfe site to co-operate. Rail Europe is quoting 106E which seems high with respect what others are saying. What kind of price do you thgink I will get if I just show up?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I get as low as 57.10 to 75.50 (euro) for regular fares for 9 March 2014. The 57.10 is for the 21:25 train only. I get the same fares for tomorrow ... so my --guess-- is 75.50 euro is what it would be if you just show up.
