Hi, My name's Scott

Hey, my name is Scott and I'll be doing the pilgrimage in mid August. I'm 18 and flying up from Australia and this will be my first time out of the country. After the walk I plan on working and backing through Europe and best of all I have no time constrictions. I'm currently collecting advice and travel tips and it would be good to meet up with someone here when I do the pilgrimage or during my travels through Europe. Thanks

Hi Scott...and welcome!

You've come to the right location and forum. There's a bunch of good and accurate info here. May I humbly suggest that you take a gander at the different sections just to get a flavor of all that's available to you. Then jump right in! By the time August rolls around you'll be a seasoned vet ready to walk the Milky Way in style, if not comfort. Check out the Class of 2008 to see who else will be walking at the same time.

Oh, and by the way...Vinotinto will lead you astray given a chance.

Buen Camino,

Arn

Thanks for the warm welcome and I look forward to asking questions in the near future

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Oh - to be 18 with no time restrictions, bumming around Europe. Sigh!
If I was you (knowing some of the routes now) I would start in Santiago, walk one of the camino routes - either the Frances or the Norte - to the south of France, up to Mont-Saint Michel on the Via Turonensis, then along the Via Francigena to Switzerland and Italy. With a pilgrim 'passport' you could probably doss down in many a priest's parlour or be given shelter in a parish manse.
Here is a picture of a route you could follow:

An interesting approach Sil. I can see why you suggest this.
Would one need to be braver than your "average" pilgrim to do this?

Last year as I walked from Pamplona to St. Jean, numerous pilgrims asked me had I travelled from Santiago ( I must have looked in poor shape!!!)

Hey Scott,

Welcome to the forum. You'll find alot of info here to help prepare you for your Camino. I'm from OZ as well. If you live in Sydney a gathering of pilgrims get to together every month. I've attached a link with all the up and coming dates of these gatherings. It's a great place to meet people who have done the walk.
