Nearly 60,000 pilgrims arrived in the Galician capital from 1 January to 31 May. Never in history have so many people marched in front of the tomb of the Apostle. In fact, arguing that many of them were running, without seeing the botafumeiro fly, the Archbishopric of Santiago just enable preferential access to the cathedral reserved for those who carry the compostela, located on the door Azabachería, which can only be used by the rest of us to leave the church.
Not surprisingly, over the first five months of 2010 the city reached 57 044 pilgrims, nearly double the same period in 2009 and 51.6% higher than those recorded over the same dates the previous Holy Year. From now until December 31 to maintain the current rate of progression of this Xacobeo Year, the exercise will end with 272 795 walkers.
