How is the weather between Leon and Santiago in early September?

Time of past OR future Camino
September 2014 Leon-Santiago de Compostella
Folks,

As I continue with my plans for this September, it occurs to me that the time I will be doing my Camino from Leon to SDC will be in that strange transition period of late summer/early fall. I would like to carry the least amount of clothes so it will greatly help me if I knew what to expect in this last leg of the Camino. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My wife and I walked from St. Jean Pied de Port last year and arrived at Santiago on September 19. I only used a light fleece jacket about 3 mornings toward the end. Most of the time I only wore it for an hour or two those mornings. Weather can change from year to year, but this will hopefully give you an idea. Buen Camino !!!

Hola

If you are planning to buy new gear for your Camino, best advice could be to wait until August so you may have some idea about how weather will be.
Personally I'd rather carry some extra weight, knowing that I will not freeze.
But then again each and every person feel temperatures differently, so it is hard to give advice.
Either way.

Expect anything. But you'll definitely get some hot afternoons. We tried to be walking early to enjoy the cooler part of the day. No problems getting up and going as most people are doing the same.

You'd have to be either a little 'loco' or very hardy; to go without a light fleece though. If you don't get a morning where you feel you need it, there is usually an evening where it can become chilly. At O'Cebrero for example, arrived when it was hot but after attending to washing and showering the mist rolled in. I needed the fleece, plus my jacket.
A thin rain jacket is good for both rain and keeping out any cool winds.

September last year (2013) was still summer weather. Temperatures in the high 20s and sometimes well into the 30s. At 6 in the morning it could be cool but not cold so my microfibre fleece was all I needed. Usually had it stowed by 9. In Galicia it was wet, very wet on 3 days and I wished I had brought a poncho instead of a rain jacket. Rain and wind walking into Santiago on Oct 3. Hope that helps
