Starting the Caminio in SJPDP on September 2014
Hello all, this will be my first time starting the Camino. I'm nervous, excited, thrilled to have this opportunity. Unfortunately due to time constraints, I will be walking only two sections at this time. SJPDP to Pamplona then Sarria to Santiago. I'm one of those that saw the movie "The Way" and was hooked. I have been planning for two years not really knowing when I was going I just "knew" it would be soon. I'm a Realtor and my last two recent sales gave me the push to do this. One home was on a street called Camino Real and the next sale the seller's last name was Santiago! I'm going solo and a bit nervous but hoping I will meet other pilgrims along the way. If anyone else is going at this time I would love to hear from you.

Buen Camino!

Good for you Carollnova! I found the experience was better (or the feeling when finished) than I imagined from watching the movie. Don't underestimate the blisters - I suggest you search the threads and see what the veteran pilgrims have to say about prevention and management. Enjoy and best wishes :)

Carollnova.

Now at last you are 'on your way' !

Since you plan to start at SJPdP do stop at the pilgrim office of the Amis du Chemin de Saint Jacques at 39 rue de la Citadelle when you arrive. They can provide you with the necessary pilgrim passport or Credential, current weather/trail information and lodging assistance. Their volunteers help run the albergue at 55 rue de la Citadelle. Recently renovated this is a fine place to stay, but they do NOT take reservations. If their albergue is full they will help you find other pilgrim lodgings when you are on site.

However since September is still a busy month, you might feel more at ease traveling to SJPdP with a confirmed reservation for first night accommodation. These three separate listings from the SJPdP Office de Tourisme for pilgrim albergues, hotels and chambres d'hotes in SJPdP include places which take reservations.

Happy planning and Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

Thank you Margaret! Yes I did pre-book my first night in SJPDP. I very much appreciate your suggestions and your response to my message. I have been planning and prepping for two years and very excited its right around the corner.

I plan to be leaving SJPDP on Sept. 9th with an "interesting" group of pilgrims ( listed here on DeadFred's labor of love calendar), so I may miss you. Have a confident journey brimming over with laughter!
