Hello friends,
By way of introduction, I am a 56 year old retiree from USA, planning my first pilgrimage for May-June of 2008 or 2009 on the Camino Frances, hopefully from Roncesvalles or Pamplona. Having visited Spain several times over the past three years, my daughter and I spent three days in SDC last May as tourists, but fulfilling one of my lifetime goals to see the cathedral and some of Galicia. ( I'm a Spain-o-phile since being inspired by a high-school Spanish teacher in the '60s). Never did I realize I would be so captivated by the experience and the idea of making the pilgrimage on foot. I only wish I had done it as a younger man. During the visit, I attended several masses, wandered these streets, spoke with several pilgrims, and enjoyed one of the local ferias.
I've been dealing with a foot problem called plantar faschiatis for over 10 months now and after lifts, injections, exercises etc, I finally seem to be shaking it, and want to begin a training regimen more than my normal 2 mile daily walk. My question is : what specific hiking shoes/boots can you recommend, and if someone has experienced the same problem, I would be most grateful to hear their recommendation. While I want to do the walk across Spain, if limited by my feet I suppose I can plan a lesser walk.... any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum Patric,

I am happy to hear that you liked Galicia and Santiago. I did too, so much that I decided to move here! (Well, the fact that my wife is from Galicia also entered into the equation).

Regarding your question about shoes/boots, have a look at the "Equipment" section of this forum here:
