Is 6 mins enough time for train transfer at Saint Etienne to Le Puy?

I am about to book my train tickets from CDG to Le Puy. Noticed one of the options has only a 6 mins "stop/transfer" time between the arrival train from Lyon to Saint Etienne and the departure train from Saint Etienne to Le Puy...is that enough time? What if I missed the train?

Absolutely. The train to LePuy will be on the other side of the same platform. It'll even wait for the Lyon train if that one is late.

If it is at all possible to get a longer duration changeover I would advise you to do it. It may be that the train you are transferring to will leave from the other side of the platform that you arrive into but if not you could easily miss it if you have to find the new platform. I have missed a train connection even with a 17 minute duration changeover one time in Toulouse, so I make sure I have plenty of time now to allow for delays of any sort. If you do miss the second train through no fault of your own (like if the first one is late) you just go to the ticket office and they will usually just book you on the next available train.

Seems to work. We did it. I think it is set up to connect with the train from Lyon.

I've done this trip a few times the other way (Le Puy -> St Etienne - > Lyon). Changeover has always been just a few minutes, with the Lyon-bound train on the other side of the platform. Never been a drama.

Book your tickets from Paris to St Etienne. Then buy a TER ticket for the section from St Etienne to Le Puy.

You need a reservation for TGV services. Your ticket is good only for the reserved seat on the designated trip.

You can't get a reservation for TER services. Your ticket for TER services is good for 90 days. Only TER trains serve the section from St Etienne to Le Puy

The system is set up for the transfer to work. 6 Minutes is enough time. If you somehow miss the train ... take the next one.
