Jakobsweg, Fulda to Trier

The 47 Euros is with Dinner and Breakfast. It costs 36 Euros with Breakfast only, the food in the Jugendherbergen is IMHO not worth the 11 Euros.
Bingen is quite expensive, because it is an interesting location for tourists. A lot of travel bus tours go there.
I have no information about a Pilgerherberge there.

No Youth Hostel is worth €47... It's totally out of proportion of what you're getting for €47! I'm getting a little frustrated now with the lack of proper provision for a Pilgerweg in Germany ...

This looks like a lot of glorious mud!

I was going to complain that I could not see your photos in the post and now I find they show up in “quote mode”!

When you reach Bingen, you should go to the Eiscafé Rialto in Neugasse 6. It offers the best italian ice cream in the whole region. My family and me are real addicts.

Ice cream at this time of the year???

I feel upset to. I just wrote a message to the Bistum Mainz that it is such a pity to have no affordable accomodation for real pilgrims here in the region.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
No where to sleep yet! If I've money left over maybe! But I'm getting slightly concerned with walking in Germany
It is quite more expensive than spain, that is for sure.
But Germany is, on the other hand, way more populated, so the chance to set up a pilgrim's house is very expensive and more expensive to maintain. If you see all the regulations and rules in Germany that you have to follow to set up a small business or a hostel and that are mandantory and checked regularly by officials, than you are aware that this is a p*in in the a*s.

Germany is not a small-business-friendly environment!

btw: for larger groups (students, pupils, large families) the price per night will drop down up to 12€ (incl. breakfast and lunch) per person in the Jugendherberge. But you have to have a "Jugendherbergswerk-card", that stated that you are qualified to get those discounts.

Another possibility to get an accomodation is the "Naturfreunde". A night from 11.5€.

This has been my experience - that the style of pilgrim-walking is different in Germany. There is much preference for large groups, generally church-sponsored/affiliated/organized, walking in the summer months of July and August. Solo walkers were always retired adults or non-Germans not currently working. Just because their style is different from Spain would not make it "improper", IMHO.

In which case it's not a pilgrimage. Individuals go on pilgrimage. A person on a pilgrimage has no sex or age restriction. And because their style is different from France, Spain and Portugal I would say it isn't really the same. But from tomorrow I will walk my own Weg because I don't believe that the association around here actually can help? Actually I'd love to meet someone from the equivalent of the Amis/Amigo just because I can't image I'd ever be forced into a hotel because it's "proper"?

A great friend, who is a Germanophile, helped tonight. He wanted me to go to Rüdesheim so I did. Thank God for friends. Tomorrow I really want to carry on the Jakobsweg, but I'm feeling this is my way to grasp so I should just walk another 45 Kms through to Boppard or somewhere thence head west to Trier? By the morning I will have caught the sunrise and left this thought behind?

I used to be a manager in the UK for the YHA, which is our version of Jugendherbergen, but it's long since I got any privileges from them ...
