Santiago to Croatia?

Hope to go back to do another Camino in Spain in 2022, then meet up with fellow Canadians travelling in Croatia. Totally getting ahead of myself here, but do any if you have insight into the best way to get from Santiago to Dubrovnik? Early looks indicate this may typically involve multiple cities/airlines, and restricted days for travel, something my brain may not be up to sorting after a month of walking another Camino 😉. I appreciate the inside scoop from anyone who’s done this.

Hi there
No doubt the Europeans will have many ways to get there but looking at ‘Rome2rio’ the quickest and cheapest is a direct flight from Santiago de Compostela to Dubrovnik
Quickest seems to be Iberia transit Madrid. Other airlines are Ryanair and Vueling.
I have used Iberia and Vueling on a number of occasions leaving Sdc to travel further in Europe in the past.

www.rome2rio

This is a great site. Finds all ways from anyplace to anywhere. Drilling down you can even book through it ..

Happy planning.
& Buen camino.

Thanks OzAnnie. I’ve looked at Rome2rio. However there do not appear to be any airlines that fly directly SdC to Dubrovnik. When I go into the guts of it, most flights seem to be 11-16-ish hours and involves overnights, multiple cities and airlines/airports. I’ll continue to scour. It is also possible that with hardly anyone travelling due to COVID, the info on websites may not at all reflect what will be available in 2022!?

That’s strange that you see longer times on rome2rio. Always possible I guess.
I just Checked into it further and offer screen shots -
both between 5 -6 hrs and only have transit of 1.5hrs in Madrid. Hard to do it faster.

good luck though. CCB40969-C966-4040-8458-C22E8A4C9724.png6A9DA2CA-EA74-46BA-B15C-A1B3A064082C.png

That is so true. I didn’t select dates and putting 2022 is too far out anyway.
Good that you’re planning early - envious.

I selected a similar date in 2021 to when I would actually travel. It looks good until you click on the “get tickets” button and what comes up is remarkable different. Or maybe it's operator error on my part?

Not sure about that @Walkerooni
I haven’t taken it to the ‘get tickets ‘ stage so can’t comment there.
I thought you were after 2022. Who knows what airlines might be operating then ?
I guess I’d plan with what’s showing now but you’re not needing to book anything just yet?

Yes, I think that’s exactly what it’s trying to tell me! I’m just itching to get planning 😂

Yes, it does involve just that. But it's possible to avoid an overnight stay. Although there are no direct flights from Santiago to Dubrovnik, it is possible to get there using 1 airline and 1 stopover. The shortest connection (at this moment) is 6,5 hours, including a stopover in Barcelona of 2,5 hours. This connection shows up in rome2rio, but is slightly cheaper on the airlines website:

Now
As stated I would make ansolutely no assumptions about 2022 airline schedules even if COVID was not around. It will be easy enough though! After a recent Portuguesa Camino I flew to Bergamo to go Lake Garda then onto Zadar, then bus to Split for a few nights and the onto Dubrovnik. Must admit I enjoyed Zadar and Split more than. Dubrovnik though it is spectacular.

To Santiago and back (no name; Tours; Francés; sea; no name)
do any if you have insight into the best way to get from Santiago to Dubrovnik?
I googled for it just now and one of the search results said this:
Each month there are several airlines that offer direct flights from Santiago De Compostela (SCQ) to Dubrovnik (DBV). Among the top airlines that consistently provide SCQ to DBV flights include:
  • Iberia Airlines - (IB) with 29 direct flights between Santiago De Compostela and Dubrovnik monthly
  • Swiss International Air Lines - (LX) with 4 direct flights between SCQ and DBV monthly
Of course, when I checked in Skyscanner for actual flights for this coming October, there were none zilch nada direct flights between Santiago and Dubrovnik. There were not even any combined flights with one stop between them. Air travel is way down from what it used to be. Flights are not only cancelled, they have been abolished and are no longer on offer.

As others have said, there is no point in trying to predict flight schedules for 2022 on the basis on what is on offer now. And when, in a distant future, things are more like they used to be, the most obvious option is either a direct flight from Santiago to Dubrovnik or a flight from Santiago to Madrid and then a flight from Madrid to Dubrovnik or any other similar combination of three airports, such as Barcelona instead of Madrid, or Milan (Bergamo) in Italy, depending on duration and price on the day. Both Barcelona and Milan are major hubs for international flights from and to Spain.

Thanks all! My initial query was indeed, not me looking to book anything soon, but curiosity as to whether what I was potentially seeing as options were the COVID options only, and may have not reflected what I as likely to see in a post-pandemic world. Your insight has been helpful. Now all we can do is sit back and hope for the best. And in the words of our provincial health spokeswoman, “Stay home. Be calm. Be kind. Be safe.” ❤️

I live in Zagreb, Croatia and the best connection is with the company Vueling, I fly with them when I travel to Barcelona.
As far as I know, they have the shortest and fastest connections between Spain and Croatia.
They also have the best ticket prices.
If you find a better flight and price, let me know :)
