January 2018 Camino

My hopes of a 2017 Camino look dim due to work and family commitments and my wife will have a surgery in February 2018. The best available time therefore appears to be the month of January.

I am willing to deal with the weather, a heavier pack, and fewer open Albergues, but my main concern is the lack of other pilgrims. I plan to start at SJPDP in early January. Will I be alone on the Camino?

You will not be alone. But, there just are not many walking. I walked in February a few years ago. The only time I was completely alone was in albergue in Valcarlos. Otherwise, there were always a few pilgrims with which to walk and talk. But, just a few. Check the winter camino threads on forum to get a better idea of pilgrim numbers.

Will I be alone on the Camino?

In my experience, yes. In three weeks I saw 14 pilgrims, but only had another pilgrim in the albergue three times.

I'm starting in Roncesvalles around the 8th January. Maybe we will meet along the way!
