Knitting birds of freedom on the camino

Time of past OR future Camino
CF 2016, CP 2017, CF SJPP-Astorga 2021
I will knit on the camino - while it is not raining (I know it will rain quite a lot) and when it is rather flat (the meseta will be knitting heaven, the Valcarlos and lots of other places will not - but there will be plenty of resting time).

I can knit in darkness, while walking, while talking, during lectures (under the table to avoid offending others) and while looking after the children on playgrounds and during football practice, during conferences, concerts and also music festivals. I don't have to look at it - and it is like meditation. I feel so concentrated and present while doing it. I have thought a lot about what colours to use - and have decided that it has to be dark shades of green. The soft alpacca yarn is bought - and will add some weight.

It will hopefully turn into a self designed sweater with various birds motives on the arms - I think they must be birds of freedom and strength. (While knitting a pattern I have to admit that I need to look - so that part needs to be knitted while resting/doing non-walking activities - apart from sleeping).

I might post a few photos of the knitting on 'the way'.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I think dust and dirt might be your greatest problem - check out a Sea to Summit dry bag or something similar, in which to keep it. They are almost weightless.

I wish I could bring my knitting on the camino, but I am nowhere near your level of ability. Good luck! I'd love to see pictures.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Kanga - that was a very good idea. Thank you. I will get it tomorrow - in a shop nearby work - will use my lunch break. (A few times I have been knitting while walking and sight-seeing with the yarn in my pocket - occasionally it falls out and sometimes people have shouted - and lots of people laugh when I have a superlong thread of yarn on the street - behind me, the nicest experience was when an old woman picket up the yarn and gathered it while walking fast towards me. We all laughed - lots of people in Cambridge, UK - noone knew eachother.) But keeping it in this light bag - attached to the hip belt will be a great solution. Wind, dust and the risk of loosing it on the ground and continue walking - will be history).
And SaraB, thank you for your nice words, maybe you should bring some knitting, a smaller project? I is really nice to knit while relaxing and produce something nice. I will post a few pictures.

I leave in 4 days! I can't believe it. Will be cloudy and quite warm in St Jean on Friday 4th (I will only walk to Valcarlos the first day) and snow in Roncesvalles the 5th of March.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
