Relax - you don't have to do anything before you fly out!
If you are starting from Sarria you will be able to obtain a "credential" - the pilgrim passport - from the pilgrim refuge there. If not, you can try one of the churches who also keep them.
The credential is your 'passport' to staying in the refuges along the way and you will need to have two stamps per day in Galaicia to earn the "Compostela" certificate when you reach Santiago. You can have it stamped almost everywhere, cafe bars, libraries, police stations, hotels etc - not only at the refuges.
You are asked to complete a form before being given the credential and should you state that you are not walking for religious or spiritual reasons then you will be given a different certificate.
