Large Size Credencial from St Jean?

Having just finished one Camino I am of course now planning the next.

It's likely to be the VdlP.

My challenge is getting a Credential with enough spaces for stamps in it. I find the ones from SDC far too small, as one side of the 'concertina' is taken up with a map, that really serves no useful purpose.

For someone who walks slowly like me, and taking account of the need for 2 stamps a day on the last 100 kms I need about 50 'spaces'. The SCD credential only has 48 and those are small.

I really like the credential from St Jean. Not only does it have 72 spaces, but it's larger, allowing plenty of space for each stamp. Also, on tougher paper.

So? Is it possible to order these online?

And I presume it won't matter to the Pilgrim's office that I walk the VdlP with a Credential from St Jean?

Note: On the website of the Pilgrim's office in St Jean, they only sell the SDC style cedential.

And Yes.. I know I could take 2, or put an extra page with glue or something....... But it's not a very 'neat' solution.......

Not sure what I'll use if ever I walk from Le Puy to SDC? I'd need about 100 spaces for stamps

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Is it possible that you missed the 8 stamp spots on the side of the maps (SCD credential)?
And enjoy the VdlP - it's wonderful :)

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Having come from Le Puy also, I thought it was quite cute when a hospitaleiro extended my full Credential by gluing another one to it. He did it neatly, I must say - and I never had a problem with it.

I must still have some of the older versions
But even so, 56 spaces won't be enough for the VdlP at my pace.

I thought you only needed two stamps per day during last 100kms if you started around last 100kms? I’ve not collected two stamps per day yet but maybe I was just very lucky to get my Compostelas??

Hi Robo, the credencial issued by The Confraternity of St James in South Africa has 90 large boxes for sellos. I googled for the equivalent organisation in Australia, and The Australian Friends of the Camino also issues a credencial:
https://www.afotc.org/passport-credencial/
maybe someone here knows how many spaces they have.

My understanding is that the 2 stamps a day on the last 100 kms is regardless of start point. Think it was only introduced in the last 2-3 years?

For the VdlP I ordered two books from Ivar (Camino Store above), cut the front page off the second, and glued them together to make one long booklet.

The Credencial offered to members of the British Confraterity is also very large, quite impressive however requires membership in the Confraternity. See here https://www.csj.org.uk/
The Camino Le Puy IS marvelous, more challenging in the first weeks and not because of the distance, nothing hysterical mind you but the French Confraternity looks after your health with a 150-200 meter climb every morning to check the cardio-vascular system and towards evening when your mind is on bed and something to eat, a steep descent. Conques can be treacherous on a rainy day both coming and going. Side trips to Rocamadour? YES! The Célé Valley? YES! Stay with Serge at the Le Relais des Jacobins in Cahors - "You will be wanting dinner? he asks YES, stay with Rom & Aidee at Ultreia Moissac in Moissac hope you like potates - they are Irish and please give my regards to Jeremiah in the church there as you go to hear the nuns singing.

The Australian Friends of the Camino issue credencials to members on request. The credencial is in a booklet form with the Australian logo on the front cover and a map on the back cover. There are around 90 places for sellos (I am saying "around", as some sellos, including the AFotC one, are larger than the space provided). One member has been issued with around 16 credencials since joining back in 2011. A couple of members have requested several credencials for a particulary long Camino.
You will find more information on the website:-
https://www.afotc.org

As a footnote the AFotC logo has the shell, pointing the way for pilgrims, and superimposed on top of the shell is the Southern Cross, the way that we in the Southern Hemisphere have found our way for centuries.

Kanga's solution is the best one IMHO if you want the document to look authentic, albeit larger...

But, you can also fashion your own extra pages at home using your computer, Microsoft Word (or your word processor software) and a printer. Here is how, in 4 easy steps...
  1. Design a plain table of squares or other shaped spaces the size you want for your extra pages using your word processing software. In Word, select: \Table\Insert...then specify the number of rows and columns, probably 2 columns by 4 rows (or less).
  2. Make the overall table size just a couple of mm smaller than that credencial that these pages are being pasted into, so the result looks better. Size the rows and columns as well, to accommodate your sellos.
  3. Use narrow, fabric (or duck) tape (available in hobby, craft, and some office supply stores) to fasten the extra pages into the credencial.
  4. Fold the new, custom pages into the correct pattern for the credencial.
The result should look professional, or at least neat.

To help matters along, I just whipped out a landscape, letter-sized (sorry, I am in the US) double-sided credential Z-page. If you print this document, it is double-sided, trim it to fit your credential. I use a razor paper trimmer. But you can use a scissor or razor and a straight edge. It should mate directly with your credencial.

This file is attached...I hope... I was forced to save the Word.docx as a .pdf so it would attach here. But If you print it as is, and trim as needed, it will PERFECTLY fit the APOC credencial and by default, the Cathedral / Ivar version as well.

So, it will work in may different formats. Just trim to fit...

Question about Credenciales as an after thought. I walked from SJPdP and I was very paranoid that I somehow was misinterpreting the wording on the credencial's back page. As I remeber it stated that once in Santiago proper one needed 2 stamps WITHIN the city. I dutifully stopped for two sumos in two different bars withing striking distance from the catheral due to my paranoia. Was I mistaken? Dumb question but those last few sellos were rather unattractive. Just musing!

The one I got from Lourdes France was much larger than the one from St Jean PDP
