Late September to October Camino

Time of past OR future Camino
TBD camino in October 2012
Hi. I am planning on doing El Camino del Norte Late September to October. I have decided to do this last minute and will be traveling alone. I do have some questions that the veterans here can hopefully answer:
- I will need to fly into Spain somehow and then fly to Biarritz?
- Will the whole trip take +-30 days starting in Irun?
- Is there somewhere to rent a bike so I can do the Camino more quickly?

I have been watching people do the camino since I was 8 years old. I have a lot of family in Spain, and I am doing 'el camino del norte' because I would like to see some of them along the way.

I am going to wing this trip and find somewhere to stay when I get into the cities. I am young, healthy, and fit so I think I should do pretty well winging it by myself.
Are there any other suggestions you could give me for my trip??

Biarritz is about the easiest airport to fly into. I fly in there on 15 Sep to start my Camino del Norte and plan to walk to Irun for the first day. Besides that I have booked somewhere to stay for the first night (I used booking.com and found an inexpensive place called Albergue Martindozenea). Beyond that I just plan to get up and follow the arrows each day! No idea about bikes and from my experience on the Camino Frances last year I guess it will take about 5 weeks on foot.

Really pushing it in 30 days mate , thats if you walk
There are some lovely stops , especially at the start which is hard , allow 34 days plus and enjoy.
Enjoy this lovely camino ,

If you only have 30 days, then start in Santander and do the "detour" to Oviedo. This is my advise. Even if you start from Bilbao it will takes you more than 30 days to reach Santiago.

Hope that helps !

Buen Camino

Would love to know if you did the Norte Sept/Oct how the weather was. I will be starting the Norte the first week of October this year and would like to get an idea for how the weather will be Oct-mid Nov. Thanks.

We did the Camino Frances starting October 1st last year and the weather turned out great. Not sure if we were just lucky or not, or how similar the weather would have been on Norte, though. Got about a week to 10 days of rain out of 35. Getting cool by the end but nothing that was ever a concern once you started walking and warmed up.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

My group of six arrives in Irun on May 20 and we're starting our Camino on May 21. Since it's the beginning of the busy season, I'm wondering if we should order trekking poles from Amazon Espana...
Elevation map shows this is really steep! What’s the best way from downtown Hondarribia up there? Then wish me luck on the Purgatorio—I am a nervous wreck.
On the Norte...started Morgo headed to Santilanna del mer...today...wonderful walk.... 1st 7k and last 7k ...the middle industrail zone was meh. Just past polonca met loverly local spanish...
If anyone is in an albergues in or near Santillana del mar on the 1st of May and comes across Nadia from Ottawa would they kindly point her in the direction of this thread. Thanks all.....
