Looking for recent information

I have been asked by a Roman Catholic friend of mine to pick up a Rosary and perhaps a necklace and bracelet with a cross on it. Reading old posts it seems like there are only touristy ones around Santiago. Without going overboard on price are there decent ones there? Or would it be better to pick one up on the Way for her?

Last year Team Sailor [my wife and me] were given a rosary each by Sister Maria at La casa de espiritualidad Nuestra Señora de Belén [Filipenses] in Carrion de los Condes. Our best camino gift (priceless items). Good luck finding what you are looking for. Que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

This thread brings back happy memories. Look out for the shops run by religious orders in the larger centres. In my experience, reasonably priced, good quality products and really delightful service.

We looked in 2016 and it was hard to find items of quality, Mainly tourist trinkets...

If you're flying home from Madrid, there's a shop for clergy in one of the small streets below Plaza Mayor with lovely things in the windows. It's very likely that there will be similar shops in larger cities on the way - I know I saw them in Burgow and Leon.

you may find something you fancy at one of the shops in praza praterías next to the cathedral.
regarding these types of purchases, i find there is a fine line, often blurry, between what's a touristy souvenir and what's not.

I bought a couple pieces of jewelry for my mom and my aunt early in my Camino and carried them with me - they were small and light, so didn't add weight to my pack. I feel like because the items went with me, that they absorbed Camino Mojo along the way, and so while neither my mom or my aunt could walk the Camino themselves, they have some of the Camino when they wear this jewelry. So aside from the potential issue of just finding touristy stuff in Santiago, consider buying the items earlier and carrying them along with you.

Religious trinket store in Pamplona near the Jesus and Maria albergue. In Burgos there is one facng the promenade, to your right if you are facing the cathedral. All sorts of prices, nothing very expensive. As these items are tiny you may want to buy them when you see them and store them away in your backpack. For crosses, those are a dime a dozen and will be easy to find in one of the many jewlery shops near the cathedral in Santiago.

In the shop in Hospederia San Martin de Pinario facing the side door of the cathedral you will find a better taste in rosaries. Next door is a shop that sells liturgical supplies that neither many tourists or pilgrims go into, try there.
