Hi, I read somewhere that an excellent monastery to stay at is San Salvador Monastery near the junction of Camino del Norte and the Primitivo, immediately after Casquita. Does anyone have any personal knowledge of this place? Its off the Norte and I understand may not always be open. Other referrals on monasteries are most welcome.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
It looks like @PhilB is looking for monasteries on the Camino del Norte.
Yes I read that in his query. However he also mentioned "Other referrals on monasteries are most welcome" to which the Camino Frances monasteries thread seemed appropriate.

Yes, I felt that the link provides individuals interested in monasteries an opportunity to learn about ones located on the Frances. Possibly a few members may chime in about ones located on other pilgrimage paths, too. I find it an interesting topic. I recently changed one of my day plans on the Sanabres to include the turn off to see the monastery at Oseira after reading such positive experiences from those who have been there, although now only tours are offered.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Where is this? thank you.
At the end of the Norte, just before Arzúa where it joins the Francés:

I walked the Norte into the primitivo last year and I stayed in two monasteries:

1. The monetary at zenarrutz after markina. Absolutely beautiful, the monks are so friendly and invited us to attend mass if we wanted. We had an amazing communal meal outside overlooking the sunset. Be warned that if you walk from Deba, the last hill is a leg burner!
2. The monastery at cornellana after Oviedo on the primitivo. Very friendly hosts, communal meal was great, although very humble. We took the tour of the church, which has an incredible history. There was also an organ concert on the night we were there. It is quite far if you walk from Oviedo (about 40k).

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
@Silvermomma This link gives you a taste of Sobrado (especially if you click on the video tours).....but there's nothing quite like standing in the grand space and feeling what has been before.

I see the monastery at Cornellana mentioned too. This year is the thousandth anniversary. If you did want to stay there, you don't have to walk 40km from Oviedo - there are options to stop in between. I was there in 2018 - there was no church tour, no organ recital and no communal meal, so remember to hold expectations lightly.

I stayed at the monastery in Cornellana in 2016 and loved it. It had a newly renovated pilgrim section on one end. As @Kiwi-family noted, there was no pilgrim communal dinner, organ recital, or tour offered, but I definitely enjoyed the experience anyway.

Sobrado Dos Monxes.....stayed there in 2022, the head abbot, Laurence was an amazing person..

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
