Sarria claims to have the most albergues on the Camino Frances, and who am I to challenge that? However, Portomarin has exploded since 2010. A fifth albergue is under construction at the top of the stairs, making it five there. Not quite at the stairs is the Hotel Ferrementario and an albergue, and two at the entry to the street into town with a third under construction! The Pousada Hotel has reopened, and Mirador is being renovated. The building trades must be at full employment.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
If that building at the top of the stairs is an albergue it's going to be a big one.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Yikes. We'll need to start booking ahead to get Lunch at the Mirador!:eek:

One of my favourite lunch spots...

Portomarín is a bottle neck like Zubiri, so new albergues are most welcome.

I can highly recommend the guesthouse Pensión Mar in Portomarín, as an alternative to staying at an albergue.

(Not wanting to turn this into a booking.com debate – that’s for another thread – I decided to book all of Pensión Mar’s 15 beds for my group last Sep, so as not to take up much needed albergue beds that other pilgrims would want. I booked via booking.com, which would hit my credit card 2 days before arrival. However, 2 days before we got to Portomarín, my credit card bounced the payment, although there were sufficient funds, and booking.com cancelled my booking! So I suddenly found myself with a group of 15 people about to arrive at a bottleneck in peak season with no beds booked. I quickly emailed Pensión Mar to please hold the beds for us, we are on our way, honestly!, we’ll pay cash. They immediately replied No Problem! Phew! Lesson learnt regarding the charge being taken by booking.com itself, not the guesthouse.)
