Time of past OR future Camino
Future - planned for late March and April 2022
Hello everyone. Come March of next year, I hope to be fulfilling a dream of 20 years to hike the Camino, Covid permitting. Work demands have prevented me and my wife from taking the time off, but with retirement coming the end of this year, we can finally do it. I've spent a lot of time reading, studying, and planning, and I've found answers to most of my questions in these forums. I'm sure that any others that come up will be easily answered by the experienced folks here.

We plan to start in SJPDP and average about 15 miles a day. We'll take a zero day once a week, or maybe more often if we find a location we want to explore more thoroughly. Ultimately, we expect to finish in late April or early May. We've both been increasing our daily walks to prepare - I'm up to about 10 miles a day now.

Looking forward to learning from you all!

Welcome to the "club". I know you have heard this phrase too often before but I will repeat that "it will be a life changing experience". It thought me patience and humiliy; how to appreciate the simple things in life and that less is really more. Work has prevented you and many of us from doing many things in life. But work is really just that, work. I learnt, a bit late in life as well, that whatever we want to do, just do it. Paolo Coehlo said something to the effect that someday we will awake and won't be able to do the things we have always wanted to do. Lesson learnt, do not put off your dreams, just do it. Work will take care of itself. It always does.

As pelegrino EV Waight says work does get in the way of more important things. One of the things that I regret most is that I did not walk my first Camino until I was 77. happily I have remained reasonably fit and walked almost every year since 2015. Unfortunately I had to have a hip replacement this year but now in training for next year and hopefully a couple more caminos after that. It may for some be more addictive than life changing but remains a wonderful experience.
Buen Camino

Dave, I think I want to be you when I grow up. As a relatively young 64, I'm hoping to be hiking long distances well into my seventies. You are an inspiration!
