Hi Everyone
I am hoping for any advice possible! I plan to walk the Camino Frances route (780 km's) from mid September. I have a month, so need to average 25-35 km's a day.
I am 39 yrs old and fit.
Is this realistic, and what advice would anyone offer....?

25-35's a pretty ambitious pace. I would suggest getting a copy of Brierly's guide - it shows distance and altitude of the different stages, so you could plan ahead (ie early stop at albergue to rest up before heading up a mountain).

Good luck n stay safe.

They have a list of books including Brierley which you can buy. They also provide advice.

I am the current secretary and leave for Spain on Sunday to work as a hospitalera. The vice chairman has taken over the membership role and she has walked about 5 times and can give valuable advice.

Best wishes
Pam

Andrew, I was 55 years old when I first walked the Camino - 27 days, averaging 28km per day. Of course it doesn't work out exactly like that because some days might be shorter and others longer.
You can work out a 30 day Camino Frances here: (If you struggle with it, send me an email and I'll do it for you. sillydoll@gmail.com

Hi Andrew - I walked that distance daily when I was 66 so if you are fit you can manage it. There are quite a few other South Africans from Durban starting at various dates in September, so you might bump into them along the way. Buen Camino. Jenny

It can be done, even without pushing yourself to exhaustion. If for one reason or the other you get into delays, you may have to sacrifice a stretch or two and cover by bus. 8)

Hi Andrew
I am also from Cape Town, Starting from Sarria on the 15th September. I will tell them all, your are coming behind me. ;-)
I have started a blog, and if you are able to monitor while you walk, you might have a better understanding of what is going on ahead of your position at the time.

I am starting Sept. 19 at St. Jean Pied De Port and walking for 2 weeks. Hope to return next year and finish it. I am from Canada and am going alone. Female and 59 yrs. old and can hardly wait. I have been reassured by many that going alone is not a problem. Enjoy
