Hi All, name is Rene and from beautiful Cape Town, SA. What an amazing Forum and all the info I have been able to gather. I have had a Guide Book since 2007 but reponsibilities have kept me busy but finally, finally with an invitation to Limoges in France in August and some free time I plan on buying my Rockrider at Decathlon in Limoges and travelling down to SJPDP by end August and cycling as far as possible for 14 days. What I need to know is how to travel back to Limoges with my bike where I plan to leave it with friends for future use as I plan many more Camino trips! Are the Spanish trains bike friendly? :D

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Hello rene4664,

Welcome to the Forum!

Be sure to check out the Forum topic on Biking the Camino to find tips and advise from other biker/pilgrims. See >> biking-the-camino/

Spanish trains are run by RENFE and they are bike friendly! For more info see this RENFE web page especially for bikers >> http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/info/bicicletas.html

When you finish your bike trip besides crossing Spain within France you will need a train to Limoges. See this SNCF (French National Railroad) web site for more train info >> http://voyages-sncf.com/ and for bikes on French trains see >> http://www.velo.sncf.com/

Happy pedaling and Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

An alternative to the train (as it isn't direct) is to rent a one-way car hire and drop it off at Irun, cycle over the border and pick up a French train. The car hire is in the station parking area at Santiago and their Irun office is next to the railway station in Irun. If you arrive after they have closed you just park it and drop the keys through the letterbox. There is a pleasant cheap hotel next to the railway station.
I have done this. - what is utterly weird is that you can drive from Santiago to Irun in one day!

Buen Camino

Thank u so much. My head is still spinning with all the options but I'm sure all will work out in the end! So looking forward to this adventure!
