THE PRESIDENT of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago and the Zafra Zafra-Río Bodión commonwealth, Antonio Puente, were delivered to the mayor of Calzadilla de los Barros, Antonio Galvan, a set of plates to signal the Via de la Plata and Mozarabic Camino de Santiago on its way through the streets of Calzadilla. Bridge chose the location for this first installment of signals, which will be distributed among all people of the region by transiting named pipes, in recognition of the work in the defense of these historic roads being made by the mayor of this town.

The translation borders on hilarious on things like the the mayor's name, which is literally translated as "Bridge" late in the article. The name of the town also gets the literal treatment as Calzadilla of Mud! The original in the link is very straight forward...

gosh, it is such a relief to see us translators will keep having a job for a few more years... Basically, there are new signs at Calzadilla de los Barros, whose mayor happens to be a prestigious senator and famous politician who enjoys placing plates with his name on public places wherever he has a chance ... This said, Calzadilla de los Barros is a gorgeous place, the Hostal Rodríguez is very pilgrim friendly, the food is great, the town is lovely and the altar in the church is absolutely MAGNIFICENT!

' ... los barros...' the mud, any more good translations out there. We had one once which talked about 'larding the eyes' it actually meant crying

Falcon, I can assure you that Calzadilla de los Barros more than lived up to it's name when I walked through. It is the sticky type of mud, used for making pots, which accumulates on your boots, until you feel you are carrying most of the countryside with you. I don't know if there is still a ceramic industry in that area but I am sure that the name comes from that, or maybe it just used to rain more

"by transiting named pipes" . Better, "the aforementioned ways" (meaning, the Via de la Plata and Mozárabe). The original notice is written in "bureaucratese Spanish", so it is difficult to translate.
Actually, "Calzadilla de los barros" can be translated as "Little Mud Road". I guess it is not a comment about its street conditions, but about clay pits, good for pottery.
There are many villages called "Calzadilla", as there are many "Villafrancas" (or Villefranche, in France), for historical reasons. It may be confusing...

The worst translation bit must be the one by the Irache where the work "to take" is taken ... well... It should say turn right, not -4 letter word- left. Surely Bing and al. could have been put to silence and local 5th graders asked to translate.

As for the "Exelentisimos" townhalls... local politics where I live make me laugh at this term. Then again, there is news on famous Catalunian politicians these days that make me sleep like a lamb.
