Hi all, I'm planning to walk the camino this summer; July 7 - aug 7; been reading alot of advice on this site; getting excited but also nervous. I can't stand boots so bought the sturdiest hiking shoes I could find; will try to bring barely anything on my back so hope it doesn't get very chilly at night or rainy. Having fair skin, I'm alittle nervous about the sun as well. Am planning to take a bus during the middle hottest, flattest part to be able to make it to santiago in 30 days. any advice is welcome. thanks.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

newbie and a site to visit

This site has a VERY good map of the camino. Even though the book I have is very good and has historical info (which is why I amtaking it) I have also made copies of the maps. They show the altitude of each stage.

Click on each number of the map and you will see what i mean. You can also get the address of the albuergues. It is all in SPanish, but a map is a map.

If you can read SPanish visit the various places on this site. It isvery very good!!!!! Also, although I hate the idea of carrying extra weight, I am taking my tennis shoes to walk onthe asphalt. the last part has a lot of that.yuck.

I have listed some info on cheaper airfare once you have the Compostelana, etc in the forum Roncesvalles to Santiago. I've done portions of it, the last part 3 times!

Buen Camino Peregrina!

Hello Newbie,
Aim for the the whole route!
The Lonely Planet Guide gives 28 days to walk the Camino Frances fromRoncesvalles to Santiago.
The Millan Bravo Lozana guide gives 31 stage maps for walking from St Jean to Santiago.
In 2002 I and two friends (all super-duper fit senior citizens!) walked from Roncesvalles to Santiago in 27 days.
If you are fit and strong you can walk the Camino Frances in 30 days.
Have a wonderful camino.

thanks for the advice and support; I was planning to begin at Roncesvalles but after reading these posts and noting the difficulty in finding transportation from St. Jean, I figured I would begin from St. Jean. any thoughts?
