Northern Camino in October

Hi,

I am resuming my walk along the northern Camino in Santander on October 7th, having completed the stretch from Irun back in June. I have two concerns.

Given that it is early Autumn will most of the hostels be closed and secondly can I expect to be walking alone for days on end? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I like walking on my own for a few hours each day but I do like to meet someone along the way and eat in other people's company.

Best wishes
Conor

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Check out the Eroski website for the dates albergues close on.

Hi, thanks for the heads up on that website. I will look into it. Hope I can translate the information.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The info is on the main page of each albergue. As long as you can dicipher months of the year and days you'll be fine.

Hi Conor!
Firstly, welcome to the Forum, where you'll find so much useful information.
Comments have been made about the opening of albergues, but nothing about possible evening company.
I'm following this with interest, as I may just walk the Northern Camino next October - if I've recovered sufficiently from the Primitivo I'm hoping to walk in May.
I agree with you completely about walking on your own, but enjoying occasional company in the evenings. I walked the Ruta del Ebro last May - saw one other peregrino walking my way in three weeks, stayed in four albergues and was totally alone in three of them!!!
Buen camino!

Hi, I started from Santander and finished up in Oviedo over 9 days. I found that hostels were open en route. I decided to branch off the Northern Camino owing to the asphalt :(

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
We started Camino del Norte on October 2nd from Irun. As we were walking some of the albergues were closing even though they were listed as being open on the Eroski and Gronze sites. Sometimes we checked with the tourist offices in previous towns as to whether an albergue was actually open.
We always had people staying in the same places as we were and some of the albergues were full.
I'd recommend going in October with the proviso that you are aware some places may be closed.
