...more a message of thanks.

I arrived in Santiago, on the Camino Portuguese, late last night. I stayed in a flophouse close to the airport (which I don´t recommend)and walked from Lavacolla to the cathedral this morning. It was pleasant to enjoy the warm, if slightly damp, morning. Today´s walk was more relaxed than the rather rushed, hot, tired and frustrated "scuttle to the finishing line" which was yesterday´s experience. I had started in Caldas de Rais, so yesterday turned into something of a marathon.

I would like to thank some folk for all their assistance.

My thanks to John Walker, for his excellent guide and advice. These have proved invaluable.

On the walk into the city, I stopped by his shop and said "hello and thanks" to Ivar. Nice to meet him in person. My thanks again to him for this forum. It has really been a great help in preparing for the pilgrimage from Porto.

This has been my third pilgrimage. Camino Frances 11/10 years ago, Via de la Plata 3/2 years ago and now the Camino Portuguese. I am convinced that a great many folk would benefit from going on pilgrimage. And I am also sure that there is a difference between a pilgrimage and a long distance walk.

But, at the moment, I think that this will be my last pilgrimage which ends in Santiago. Not that there is anything wrong or problematic about this city or Galicia. It is just that there are other roads and other pilgrim journeys. Granada to Merida sounds fun, but then again, so does the Appalachian Way.
Well, who knows?
But for the moment, so long to all of you and goodbye from a wet but sunny Santiago
