Short walk today. Okay by me ... last two days were tough. Today was all walking on old Roman roads. Amazing how people engineered these roads and bridges. Even more amazing are the people that laid down all of the stones, all those years ago.4DF7526F-92FA-43D5-8350-EB8E975B9FA3.jpeg7E78B0B3-EA00-4172-AF70-1707D2E73C47.jpeg9AFBD4D7-6A1F-4B75-ADBD-00D590FAFD6B.jpeg6664E576-A924-4ABB-B18C-59A15F0497E0.jpeg

Pontremoli was one of the most memorable stays on my VF walk. There was an ostello in the Castello del Piagnaro. I was the only person staying there. When the museum closed the manager handed me a set of keys and told me where to leave them the next morning. So I had the entire castle to myself for about €12! In the morning I was woken by a thunderstorm and with the height of the building it felt as if I was right in the middle of it. Exhilarating!

I really liked Pontremoli too when I was on my 2017 VF camino. The river is lovely and it’s an interesting town.
On the way out of town I spied this interesting ‘art’ installation in the foyer of a dentist’s surgery …

Clever! It had me smiling all day!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Has anyone got information on the hospice (not the auberge) a Great Saint Bernard Pass? I've read their website, and I'd appreciate insights as to how comfortable it is, quality of the food, etc...
Due to length restraints, I’ve had to to split the story into two posts. I find it no longer ‘flows’. I suggest reading Part 1 again, link below, before reading Part 2. Regards Gerard Part 1 link...
