Porto to Santiago - do we need advance booking for hotels?

Hello. We are four people starting from Porto on September 8 and would like to reserve our hotel rooms on a daily basis as we go and then have a taxi carry most of our baggage ahead for us. Is this doable or should we arrange all our bookings in advance?

SteveT,

Welcome to the Forum!

Reserving a room the night or two before should work out fine at the time that you are planning to walk. That way you will have more flexibility to plan your stops according to your current needs.

By the way crossing the old frontier from Valenca de Minho, Portugal, to enter Spain at Tui by walking on the 19th c international bridge designed by Eiffel is breathtaking especially at dusk as the lamps are lit on the shore !!

Bom Caminho,

In september there is no need to book in advance as long as you have a list with addresses and phonenumbers. Just in case of doubt give them a call as you leave in the morning to tell you'll arrive during the day. There are albergues on route where no is need to reserve .
We never used luggage transport. On the route from Porto sometimes we saw stickers in albergues or on lampposts I thought this was Jacotrans but as I remember this only in Spain.
Maybe other fellow pilgrims know mire abiut this.
Bom caminho
