Power Adapter?

Hello all,

I'm looking to replace my trusty travel adapter which finally gave up the ghost on my last trip. I want to keep it simple this time... just needs to work in Spain and London (not every country in the world), and I'd love if it had a usb port or two on it so that others could charge their phones as well. What plug type do I need? Any recommendations? (my phone charger/camera charger will do the necessary voltage conversion, just need something to adapt the plugs)

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Spain and the UK have different plugs/sockets so you will need one for each or a multi adaptor. Both have 220v sockets. There is a list of worldwide plug types here which might help your search.

I definitely recommend taking something with dual USB if possible. Socket space can be in high demand at Albergues. If you're ahead and lucky to get a free socket someone after you can also use the spare and it you're out of luck, most people won't mind if you swap their plug for yours as long as they can continue to charge at the same time

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Sounds like you just need two adapter plugs. Two pin EU for Spain and UK for the UK. If you want an USB port you'll need something more complicated and expensive. You want it simple just get the adapter plugs. Add a dual/or bigger USB charger.

Have a look at the Anker website, I carry a five port USB charger.

I use these, they have 2 power outlets + 1 USB outlet. This one is for the UK, but they also have them for Europe, it is far less bulky than the multiprong world-wide adapters, but the drawback is you need 1 for the UK and another for the EU >>> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JQX2PJ6/?tag=casaivar02-20

ALSO, these are NOT voltage converters.

There are PLUG ADAPTERS and there are VOLTAGE CONVERTERS and they are different. Most electronics do NOT need a "voltage converter" because most use a multi-voltage transformer.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
With smoke and a circuit breaker pop, I have just fried the official Apple socket USB charging port in a "travel adapter". It may be that the little cube is 110 volt only. It got hot enough to melt one side of the cube and scorch the USB cable and the adapter. I thought all modern charging aparati were dual voltage. That may not be the case.

I don't understand...are you saying you were using the Apple charger plugged into a power converter...if so they don't need them and that might be the problem
Were you plugging the apple charger into a prong/outlet adaptor (bought in a Spain equivalent of the dollar store)--the outlet adaptor is probably the culprit
are you saying you were using an non-brand charger? The maker may be the problem, or they may not be rated for all voltage as Apple chargers are
were you plugging something other than an iPhone/iPad into the USB port designed for the iPad? some can't take the higher amps the charger puts out vs the 'old' apple charger blocks

My charger / adapter finally gave out too, and I found a dual-unit USB charger on Amazon that looks great - and is a fraction of the size of my old adapter. Since the only thing I'll need to charge is my phone and kindle, I'm counting on this being enough. Also, there's two inlets, so I can share!

I'm not sure if it works in the UK, but it should work in most of the EU
