Heavy rains last weekend caused significant damage on the French route to Santiago where it goes through the town of Paradela. About four miles of the pilgrimage route, of the 7.3 that lie between the limits of the municipality, have been affected.

The flood swept over the pavement on the road and caused big holes. In addition it caused the downfall of some walls and landslides that were carried by water to low points of the route. Some debris was washed up on roads, obstructing traffic and had to be removed by concello operatives and neighbors. The remains of land and the gaps present high risks of falling for animals and people passing through the area, both pilgrims and residents who own property in their vicinity.

The movement of people is very difficult and practically impossible to re-route the passage of bicycles - a vehicle of choice for many of the pilgrims - before the big hits that are in some stretches. During the last few days a few pilgrims decided to make the route, but cyclists have an alternate route to continue their pilgrimage toward Portomarín, LU-633 highway that connects Sarria and Portomarín.

Sections
All parishes of Paradela by running the Road were affected. The sections affected are those that communicate between the parish of A Laxe, A Tellada y A Parrocha, y A Parrocha y Vilachá A. These last two stages are in the parish of As Cortes. In addition, other sections that have been damaged are those linking Moimenta Rozas, in the parish of Franks, and outskirts of Ferreira with Sarria. Paradela City Council became aware of such damage on Thursday to be alerted by neighbors.

"The local government will now begin the necessary procedures for the Jacobean to take over the renewal of the pavement," said the councilman, Jose Manuel Mato. These works must be ipso facto, he said, Because in a few weeks will be Holy Year and expected a large influx of pilgrims, as many want to reach Compostela to attend the opening of the Porta Santa.

Councilmen criticized the route as already in poor condition.

Vilacha is about 2km from Portomarin - you might recal seeing 'Casa Banderas' (house of Flags) on the corner of the street running through the pueblo.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Thanks.....I see it is just before you reach the bridge going into Porto Marin. I recall that area as a pretty long winding downhill on asphalt road. Very green with long grass and trees in April.

I was driving through Portomarin this afternoon and saw the steps up to San Pedro, were barricaded off. I wonder how you enter the village now.

PS There was some very light snow in the area but nothing settled.
