Recommended Stages after Lugo - where to put the short day?

Hi all,

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I've been staring at the maps and not getting a good sense of where to break things.

The recommended stages after Lugo make Melide to Arzúa the short day. I'd like to shorten the last day to Santiago. To make matters more complicated I've already made some reservations.

From Lugo to Burgo de Negral. Reserved.
Friol to Melide. Reserved but I can cancel this one.
Melide to ? is where I get stuck.

Any thoughts? I don't mind the crowds I just was hoping for a relaxing walk into Santiago.

When I walk the Primitivo, I typically keep walking when it merges with the Frances in Melide. There are several places in Boente, about 6 Km on. All are listed on Gronze.com. But they don’t have any place serving pulpo like Melide does!!!

But wait. If you’re staying in Friol won’t you merge with the Norte on the way to Sobrado??? Maybe I’m just confused.

Agreed. Pass by Melide as it's a major stopping point. Stay in between stages here. I did and all the places I stayed were very quiet.

I oopsed. It wasn't Friol. I have edited the response. It's a slightly shorter day which makes the day to Melide slightly longer.

To minimize my time on the overcrowded Francés, I just walked from Ferreira on the Primitivo through Melide to Arzua, then walked from there to Santiago the next day.

I used the godesalco.com website “planificador” to determine distance between towns and villages in Sep/Oct 2021. Once I knew my capabilities I would search for what stops were between 25-32 km from my starting point that day, and then would check gronze.com to look for lodging. After Melide, I stopped at Salceda (25.6km) which is 27.7km from Santiago. Sometimes availability of lodging drove me to walk shorter or longer distances than I otherwise might have. By the last 6 or 7 days I planned my stops further in advance as more people were on the Camino

I made Lugo - Santiago in 3 days, with the last day being the short day for me. I know my average stage length is not what you are looking for, but I want to encourage making the last day the short day as it is so much more relaxing to have plenty of time in Santiago upon arrival.
Between Lugo and Santiago I stayed in As Seixas, which I liked alot, and Salceda, which I despised. The latter had a terrible stench - the price you pay for intense agriculture I guess, and a large group of 60+ drunk men from Ireland were screaming and shouting all night until about 4 in the morning. My by far worst (and most expensive) night on the whole Primitivo.

Agere about Boente. Albergue el Alemagne is very nice. And as I don´t like pulpo, Melide has nothing to offer me ;-)

I'll be doing the Primitivo starting July 2nd and my stages from Lugo on:

- Lugo » Ferreira (26,50 kms);
- Ferreira » Boente (25,60 kms);
- Boente » a Rua (26,20 kms);
- A Rua » Santiago (21,00 kms).
