Hi all,
The '23-24 college year will be my last as a professor (retiring next year, can't wait) and as a result, I've been asked to plan a Study Abroad trip for 2 weeks over the Holiday season in late December and early January. As a result Phil and I are rethinking our summer plans so I can recon the Sarria to Santiago route. The trip in December /January will be mainly for health sciences students and will be based on self-care for the mind, body and soul.

So after our volunteer service in Arres this summer on the "Camino Frances through Aragon" we'll return to Madrid, spend the night in a trendy hostel pod called Oxygen near Atocha starion and then take the train from Chamartin to Sarria on June 17. Our goal is to stay in Xunta albergues for a 7-day trek into Santiago. Then scope out some group places to stay in Santiago for a few nights with a bus trip to Muxia or Finesterre thrown in at least one day.

I would like to book a trendy, less expensive place for the group in Madrid before going back to winter in Wyoming and we will have a couple of days or so in Madrid for some cultural visits. So we are staying at Oxygen to see if these Pods fit the bill, but I also see I can book for a group at The Hat. Another option is to book a huge AirBNB. I'd rather keep us on the bunk/albergue theme if possible for under $50 per night. I am think we will limit to 10 or 12 students and one more faculty member so space for 12 to 14 or so.

Your supportive thoughts here are welcome.
Janet

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

I have stayed twice at Hostel Las Musas, which is close to Tirso de Molina metro. I think it would fit the bill nicely. Check out their website. They have doubles, triples and dorms with bunk beds. Very lively atmosphere.

I have seen a few web pages that says they closed in 2020. Have you stayed since then? Are they reopened?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Stayed at The Hat last month and it was very clean and well-located. Good breakfast, free evening sangria, rooftop bar/cafe, and a small serf-cater kitchen in the basement. Because some rooms face onto a busy street, my spot was extremely noisy all night. As a hub for exploring the area, though, it was perfect.

I will try to go by and visit this trip. Do you think it would be a good pick for a bunch of college kids and a couple of grumpy old faculty sponsors?

The Hat has a variety of rooms, so it all depends on what is available on your days. Location is unbeatable and I paid $25usd for a bunk room with four beds. Breakfast was an extra $7 or so. I found it quite comfortable as a 55yo single traveler. Showers weren’t great but overall I’d stay there again

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
