Rest Days

John P.

Member
Hi again all -

I mentioned before that my wife will have special challenges walking the camino. But we'll take our time and have frequent rests - including rest days..... Does anyone have any suggestions on nice (though moderate budget) places to stay in places like Redondela, Pontevedra, or Padron? Actually, for those places considered "mid-day" for allot of walkers that don't have refuges, like Arcade, Caldas de Reis, or San Miguel de Vegro would be helpful too....

Thanks,

John P.

Hotels for Rest days.

John, I thought I should share what little experience I have with you of hotels along the Portuguese route which I took, with a fellow pilgrim, late April this year.

Redondela - stayed in the pilgrim hostel along with forty teenage pilgrims, we only got a night's sleep by moving ourselves to the library and sleeping on the settees.

Pontevedra - Hotel Ruas, small room with double bed and usual bathroom with shower over bath, washbasin and toilet, window strangely opened onto the lift shaft, I am not sure if work on the lift had finished. Perfectly acceptable standard, single occupancy 25€. Breakfast I believe available from the bar they ran next door.

Padron - we walked on through.

Caldas de Reis - Hotel O Cruceiro. The hotel had been newly refurbished, the very clean room had the usual bathroom facilities en-suite, TV, and two single beds. Lift up from reception. My notes say I paid 18€ for single occupancy. Bar accessed from reception and used by locals too, provides continental breakfast. The kindly barman refused payment from myself and my fellow pilgrim though I cannot say that will always happen.

San Miguel - no knowledge.

If you want further details e.g. phone numbers I have them. Must say we simply arrived on the day and had no problem getting two rooms both for sole occupancy. Good luck Pilgrim

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Thanks pilgrim/william!

I'll make note of your suggestions. I have the http://www.turgalicia.es link which seems to list every imaginable accomodation in Galicia - and gives a certain amount of "technical" information. But your actual experience with these places is what's so valuable - and greatly appreciated - :D

Thanks again ~
