This one's for Aucklanders (or anyone in Auckland this coming Sunday May 15th) - I have just discovered that Jean-Christophe Rufin will be speaking as part of the Auckland Writers Festival about his book on the Camino which has just been translated into English as "The Santiago Pilgrimage: Walking The Immortal Way".

As of right now (Wednesday 4.30pm) there are still tickets available - I just bought mine! I can't believe I didn't spot this when I read through the programme previously! I'm usually very quick to spot anything Camino-related, and Rufin has been mentioned on the forum recently in discussions about recommended books. The event will be in the Aotea Centre, in the main ASB Theatre, so there's lots of room but there are also lots and lots of Camino-obsessed Aucklanders around, so I imagine it will fill up by Sunday. Details here: http://www.writersfestival.co.nz/programmes/event/the-immortal-way-jean-christophe-rufin/8320/

Of course, having been so unobservant as not to notice this before, I'm probably the last Camino-obsessed Aucklander to book tickets, and all of you out there are probably already organised with your tickets and thinking "So tell us something we didn't already know weeks ago!"

Around 200 "pilgrims" and friends attended his talk at the Sydney Writers Festival on Sat 21 May - and around 75 bought copies of his book.
