Hello,
I am starting my (first!!!) camino in Pamplona. I arrive there July 6th (hopefully) in the evening, and will be staying for the 7th and maybe leaving on the 8th to start walking. Just wondering if there were any other peregrinos passing through Pamplona at that time and whether they'd like to meet up? I am told it will be Madness due to the feria, no sleep, but if anyone feels like a day off to catch the bullrunning?!
Let me know :p
xxJuliet

Hi Juliet,

Falcon is right, you might have quite a problem finding a place to sleep in Pamplona. Last year I stayed at the Muncipal Auberge Jesús y Maria on July 4th. I was told that the following evening the aubergue would be CLOSED to pelgrims for San Fermín. Not sure how long they were to remain closed.

Took luck!

A guide to speaking Spanish on the Camino - enrich your pilgrim experience.
It is a good thing you are from South Africa; the Australian government has warned its citizens against running with the bulls:

http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-new ... 1goro.html

An Australian lad was badly injured last year. The year before a runner was killed. There is a "calculator" on the webpage above to calculate if you are suitable for the run. Alcohol and age will weigh heavily against you!!!

http://www.sanfermin.com/old/encierrome ... p?lang=eng

The young Australian injured in the bullrunning on the 7th still in a serious condition
09/07/2010. Six injured runners from earlier running of the bulls continue hospitalized and three others have already been discharged.

N.W. an 18 year-old from Melbourne, was injured in the first Sanfermin running of the bulls, with bulls from the Peñajara bull-ranch. He continues to be in a serious condition, although his evolution is favorable according to the medical report from the Emergency services from the Servicios de Urgencia A (former Hospital de Navarra) of the Pamplona hospital complex.

The youth, who was injured at the top of the entrance to the bullring, suffered fractures to his 1º, 2º y 3º vertebrae of his backbone and he is awaiting a surgical operation.

The other two runners who suffered gorings in the earlier runnings, the British man, C.C., aged 43, and the young man from Galicia - 21 year-old, Y.M.F are still in hospital but their condition is favorable and the outlook is good.

There are another three runners along with them suffering from diverse injuries, but their evolution is good: J.G. (48 year-old from The USA) with multiple contusion and a cut to his eyebrow, I.U.P. (24 year-old from Burlada, Navarra) with contusion to his left shoulder and H.D.Y. (33 year-old from Israel), who suffered a broken shin.

Other runners who have already been discharged include H.T.J. (20, Zaragoza), was suffered eye contusion on the 7th of July in Mercaderes; E.T.H. (31, from San Sebastián de los Reyes, Madrid) who suffered cervical contusion on the 8th in Estafeta, and O.G.G. (56, from the town of Esteribar, Navarra), who was injured in the stretch in front of City hall where he suffered an ankle injury.

Man as his best: making sport of the lesser animals, getting in one others' way, pushing fellow men aside to secure one's own safety, danger without purpose, and only four injuries.
