Has anyone here left the CF in Sarria to walk last 100k from Ourense instead? If so, thoughts? comments? Suggestions?

Perfectly possible, you will be on the Via de la Plata then.
 
I've done both. I walked the CF in 2014 and 2015 where I went through Sarria. This year I walked the Via de la Plata and the Camino Sanabres and went through Ourense. I loved Ourense!!! Especially the thermal springs. The city itself is wonderful and relaxing my muscles in the thermal springs after walking all the way from Sevilla was heaven on Earth. Although I enjoyed the walk from Sarria to Santiago, I must admit to having a personal preference for the route from Ourense to Santiago. Tip - if you do decide to walk from Ourense make sure you either walk or take a taxi up to Pico Sacro (the Sacred Peak). From there you can just barely see the Santiago Cathedral from that distance. The next day you will walk into Santiago from a different route than all the others walking in on the CF.

Yes! I did in May. Walked from Leon to Sarria and then took the train to Ourense. Wonderful experience. Take a day in Ourcnse to explore the cathedral and the hot spring baths. I appreciated the differences in the routes by walking a bit of both. enjoy!

Thanks for the reply. I walked CF from Leon in 2016. Last year I did SJPP- Burgos. So this year, With about 3-4 weeks total - I'm debating starting in Burgos and then joining VdlP for that last bit- or possibly doing Sanabres instead of CF.

So many options.

Was it easy to transfer from Sarria? Were there many albergues, etc from Ourense on? I've already walked the Sarria route-so looking for something different.

2024 edition: The Brierley Camino Frances Guide
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

I have walked both and definitely prefer Ourense. We loved Ourense as a town and the walk in from there was beautiful.

Thanks for posting this, Quinranda. This has got me thinking now. Sarria to SDC didn't exactly blow me away on my last Camino so this may be a better option. Can anyone recommend a guidebook that covers this section at least? Thanks, guys

One is an accommodation list for the VDLP - including the Sanabres variant. Getting a little old now and probably out of date in places but a useful starting point. Thanks for the info, Bradypus. I've been looking into it and I think I'll do Ourense > Monesterio de Oseira > Laxe > Punte Ulla > SDC. This will actually get me a day earlier into SDC than I had planned, which will be nice. More time to relax before flying out.

From what I can see, Quinranda, it is about an hours train ride to Ourense from Sarria. There are no changes required and it is fairly cheap.
