Sarria to Santiago : August 1-7

My sister and I are going from Sarria to Santiago at the beginning of August. We have an increasing concern of the fact most europeans go on holiday in August due to the heat. Does the Holiday effect the Camino/Albergues? What are some suggestions about doing the Camino at this time? I am sure hydration and trying to stay cool are key, so how would you suggest doing both?

Wear a hat and long-sleeved shirt and drink plenty of water. It really is as easy as that!
As for how busy it will be, I've not walked in August so I don't know for sure, but everyone says there are lots of people!

The holidays in Europe always affect the volume of walkers/pilgrims between Sarria and Santiago. The fact that walking from Sarria and taking at least two stamps on one's "credencial" to obtain the "compostela", adds to the popularity of this stretch of just over 100 kms. The school holidays are a good reason for many people to this.
Probably 50% of the path passes through shady forests, and there still is a chance that rainy Galicia will keep body temperatures acceptable. Day temperatures, however, can be pretty exhausting, particularly between 12 midday and 4 pm. There are many stopping areas (bars, albergues) along the road, where one can "top up". Carrying a small bottle of water between those spots should keep one hydrated. Booking ahead for beds in a private albergue or hostal is essential. Try those which are off classic stops such as Portomarín, Melide, Arzua, Rua (O'Pedrouzo). And don't forget to reserve in Santiago or its surroundings.
