Sending Package from St. Jean

Time of past OR future Camino
Starting Mid October
Hi there! I will be starting the Camino next week and need to send some items off to lighten my load (currently, I am near Bordeaux). Once I have reached St. Jean, which is the best post office to send international packages (to the UK or the US, depending on the price)? Also, does anyone ever send packages ahead of them to Santiago--would they be held while a pilgrim is walking? Thank you!

The post office in SJPdP is near the train station, and you can ship to the US or UK from there. You can mail items to Santiago to Ivar, and they will be held. I don't think the Correos will hold items long enough for you to catch up with them. See the link at the top of the page for services offered by Ivar.

Correos does have a service in Santiago, in fact in any post office, where your parcel will be kept for as long as you need ot to be. But you would have to mail the parcel from within Spain. It’s called Paq Peregrino and they hold your larcel for free for 15days, and then charge 2€ a day (was 1€ earlier in the season...). http://www.correos.es/ss/Satellite/..._paqueteria/detalle_de_producto-sidioma=en_GB

There is also the Correo de lista, or the poste restante. They keep your parcel for free for 1 month, but after that there is no garantee as to what happens to your parcel. You can, in theory, mail to the Correo de lista in Santiago from abroad, but your parcel will go through customs and you may have to pay duties on its content.

Express bouricot, from SJPP, keeps your parcel in their office near the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago for you.
