Shantiago - a Camino song in shanty style

Bradypus

Migratory hermit
Time of past OR future Camino
Too many and too often!
A couple of my Camino friends have posted Facebook links to this song by Sean Hampton today. Those of us who spent Covid lockdowns here in the UK are probably very familiar with the strange phenomenon of the sudden popularity of sea shanties at the time. And especially "The Wellerman". So the tune will be familiar to many of us. If it is not already familiar then please be warned that it is prime earworm material...

@Bradypus this is brilliant! I’m assuming that the artwork is some sort of AI generated. It has a weirdly seductive, other-worldly feel. A lot of talent went into this. I’m going to google Sean Hampton.

But oh dear i listened to it twice; then again cos i hadn't heard Rebekah Scott mentioned as in the post above!!
Now it's in my head; well the tune is lyrics may never be as i have trouble remembering my own name🤣
Buen Camino
Jerry Atrick (i think)

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Fantastic! Thanks. Got me in the mood as I am leaving in two weeks. Hope the “tune” will not echo in my head through 750km 😆🤣😀
Google, Somewhere Along the Way, by the Aussie singer, Dan Mullins. My Wife and I were lucky to spend some time with him and some of his Family on our Camino in 2022. Once that song gets in your head it’ll stay with you. We can’t wait to get back out on The Way.

Definitely AI. The facade of the cathedral in Santigo, for example. Or the monastery in Roncesvalles. For me, the art pulled me out somewhat, but I did like the song.

Thank you sooo much!! I am so happy someone took the time to do the experience up right. At first I had wished he had gone into the cathedral at the end & spoke of his reaction there with the botafumeiro swinging & the camaraderie felt. But maybe he didn’t get to experience that or it was too personal to share or he didn’t want to color a future pilgrim’s expectation. Due respect.

I actually liked the graphics, despite the fact that they resembled more a video game version of the camino (not that I'm familiar with that medium). I mentioned that I was going to google Sean Hampton. The results wre not enlightening. I don't know anything about computer graphics, but surely a lot of creative work went into this.

Awe this was great, had me tapping my little Scottish feet, thanks for posting this! ♥️🎶

Hi, I'm the writer/creator of the song and video. I thought I would demistify it a bit and say that the graphics were actually relatively easy to create. Using the Bing AI Image Creator I just needed to describe with text and in detail what I wanted a particular image to contain to fit the song narrative. Sometimes it didn't hit the mark first time and I would have to describe in more detail or describe differently but mostly I got an acceptable image. In fact there was usually a choice of four that were returned so I could pick the one that fitted best. The most work for the graphics was in getting different images of the cathedral for each chorus but such that the facades looked similar. It was never going to be perfect e.g. the zig-zag staircase is missing at the foot of the facade but it was just meant to be a representation, not only of the cathedral but of a Camino through the whole song. That said, the Cathedral images far exceeded my expectations.

It is the only thing I have ever done with AI so @Peregrinopaul I'm afraid there wasn't much else to find of mine online.

Thanks all for your comments, I am really pleased that people are enjoying it. 🙏

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Thank you for taking the time to do this and then to share it. I love it! Am starting Camino No. 6 on May 4 and will add this to my playlist for when I need a little boost up one of those climbs between Irun and SdC! 🫶🙏

I echo others… brilliant! I have forwarded it already to others especially to a very special cousin of mine… Robin (and wife Norma). I am taking them on their 3rd camino in Sept this year - Roncesvalles to Logroño - we have plenty of time to learn the lyrics!!
