Hi there
I'm flying into Paris from New Zealand leaving September 18, hoping to find a convent or hostel for a night or two in Paris, train to SJPDP and overnight at Orisson if they get back to me. I'm travelling solo, in my 60s, did a Camino 10 years aago with my daughter. Super excited now the flight is booked. Any advise on accommodation near the airport/train station in Paris. Advice, any advice welcome!

Eeek, Paris is an expensive city. I've stayed at the airport Ibis, which is about as cheap as it gets and is a good option if your flight arrives later in the day and/or you are jet lagged and need sleep as a first priority.

From Sydney it is actually better for me to fly to Madrid, rather than Paris, and then catch the train to Pamplona and the quick bus from Pamplona to SJPDP. It is quicker and also a lot cheaper. Don't know how it works from New Zealand, but might be worth considering.

Thanks Kanga. Ten years ago I did meet up ith my daughter in Madrid. I chosen (and paid) for a oneway flight to Paris. I guess its a bucket list thing. I want to go to Paris once. I believe there are convents and hostels that are reasonable.

www.airbnb.com has small flats/apartments in various parts of the city for under 60 euros per night. With the Le Metro, you can easily maneuver around the city and get to the train station.

It's 41€ per night. You can get there easily by taking bus 351 from CDG airport to Nation (6€ or 3 metro tickets). After a long flight, I think it's nice to have a bit of privacy to re-organize my belongings.

If you're taking the train from Paris to Bayonne, you can take the #6 metro from Nation to the Montparnasse train station.

I went to Paris for a week 2 years ago. It's absolutely wonderful. What train station will you be using? If you want to see anything in Paris, you'll want to get out of the CDG area and stay central. The metro is efficient and will easily get you to whatever train station you need. I find CDG to be a very confusing airport with awkward public transit options. If you can afford it, pay the 20 euro for a hotel/hostel transfer in a shared van. They'll go anywhere in the metro area and save you a lot of frustration.

I used to book hostels through hostelworld.com though have "moved up" to hotels now that I travel with my husband. I know they are thought of as "youth" hostels but most only require that you be young at heart and there might be some loud drunk kids.

Paris can be overwhelming over just two days. I'd probably hop on the Seine river cruse as the sun is setting and take in all the architecture. If you are a lover of churches and chapels, Notre Dame is free but just a few blocks away is Saint Chapelle and it is completely mind blowing! Also the Sandeman's tour company has free walking tours every day in the center (pay by donation).
