Sleeping Bags - April

Mic

New Member
I plan fot ther class of 2008. Just getting my bits and pieves together now.
What is the best sleeping bag to take - I am erring in favour of weight, but not sure how cold it could get in April - any ideas?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Mic,

If the average weather holds for April you're looking at mid-40F to Mid-50F. Therefore, I would suggest a bag good down to 40F. The key to proper use of a sleeping bag is not wearing much while inside it. If your bag is rated for the best low temp, your body temp at 98 F, will keep you toasty. If it gets a bit colder, remember this adage: if your toes are cold and your nose is cold...you're probably cold. So, add a light pair of socks.

You can get a good 40F bag that's down filled and weighs only a bit more than 1lb 6oz and, packs in a stuff bag no larger than 16 in x 6 in. Check out:

Look at the bags and see what you like.

Buen Camino and...welcome to the Class of 2008.

Clare, the silk liner in a 40F bag should be just fine. Remember, the lighter the clothes you wear in the bag the more your body heat will have a positive effect. So consider something light...possibly also silk.

Buen Camino,
