sleeping bags needed in April?

Hello fellow pilgrims (to be)
My husband and I are walking the Via de la Plata, hoping to start early April from Seville. (We do intend to walk to Santiago de Compostella) We have been browsing this blog and the guide books, and we are still not clear on whether we should or shouldn't bring a sleeping bag. And if it is recommended: what rating? Does anyone have any experience with the night time temperatures on this route? If so we would be interested to hear your views! TIA, Patty

Yes, many have experience and it ranges all over the weather map!

I wouldn't consider not taking a sleeping bag for early April. I'd say a 7-10 C rating would be good. You can always supplement it by wearing layers to bed.

If you are planning to stay exclusively in private hostal/hotel accommodation, of course you don't need a sleeping bag.
 
I have walked twice from Seville in April and it was very cold at times. I prefer to take my sleeping bag.

Depends where are you planning to sleep. Municipal albergues or private rooms (pensiones, hostales etc.).
Depends what's your temperature comfort zone while sleeping.
Depends whether you have 3 kilo or a 250 grams sleeping bag and how much you want/can carry.
Anyway you can dump it in any albergue in a donativo bin if you won't need it anymore or send it to Casa Ivar in Santiago for a few Euros if it is very important/expensive for you and pick it up when coming to SdC.

I walked the Via de la Plata in late April into May and definitely needed warm sleeping gear. It was freezing at times.
 
I walked in April from Salamanca this year. I carried a light summer sleeping bag. Most but not all of the municipal albergues had blankets so I used one on top of the sleeping bag. A few times I had no blanket so I used a silk inner liner as well and wore some of my clothes. This worked fine for me. If I owned a good warmer sleeping bag I would have brought that instead.

Yes, lol, I get all that. Municipal albergues mainly We have decided to bring one, ours are not heavy and by the sound of it we may need one. I feel if we need it it will be more towards Santiago as well, as the temperatures closer to the sea can be more temperamental. Being from Australia, we may be cold frogs too, not used to many cold nights in Brissie. Thanks everyone! Buen Camino
