Hi there, this is Jimmy from England. I have booked my flight fro Stanstead on the 4th April and after an overnight stop in St. Jean Pied de port will start walking on the 5th April 2017. I intend to use the Valcarlos route staying at Valcarlos and then continuing Roncesvalles the next day. Two days average of 8 miles is a useful way of getting legs used to walking. I am continuing my training by walking 8 miles daily and doing legs strengthening exercises. After Christmas I will extend that to 15 miles daily with backpack. New walking shoes being broken in now also. My walking boots are already well broken in and I will use both.

I broke the 1st section into 2 days - overnight orrisson then roncesvalles. I wore the one pair of boots for walking and had a pair of "walking" sandals to change into of an evening - give the feet a breather". I walked in those sandals for 2 days (30Km) due to a blister. The boots provided the best consistant support on all the various terrain and my sandals were a relief at the end of the day, two pairs footwear maximum flexibility - less weight to carry
