Hello I live in Australia and leave for London next week. I fly to Asturgas (Oviedo) and hope to some how find my way to Leon from there. There seem to be regular buses and trains from there but I worry about my lack of Spanish. I am a mature age Pilgrim (almost 63) but I am sure I will have plenty of company. Looking forward to meeting my fellow travellers - feel a bit scared at the moment!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

There are several trains each day that leaves form the train station, right down town. (The station in under that white square you see... you can see the white taxies waiting outside.).

For another look at the train station, have a look here.

As for language, I think you will be fine. With "Leon, por favor" you should be able to get a ticket. :)
For train schedules, have a look here:
http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html

There are also buses, about 10 each day. The bus station is next to the train station. Have a look here for a street view.

The bus takes about 2 hours, and if you need help with making a reservation I can help you, just send me a message over on this page. You could also reserve it over at http://www.alsa.es yourself.

Enjoy your planning and most importantly your trip!!

Greetings from Santiago,
Ivar

Ida is pronounced ee-da (long e sound). You could say "Leon, por favor, Ida solamente." Maybe fractured Spanish, but it worked for me. :) Not sure if these trains have different classes, but first class is "Primera" & 2nd class is "turista." Or in Spanish, primera clase, turista clase . For a 2 hour train ride, turista is okay.

If push comes to shove & you don't trust your Spanish, just write it down & present it to the clerk, or ask if they speak English. "Habla ingles?"
