Hi,
I was wondering if anyone will be starting the Portuguese route on Sept. 1, 2015, from Lisbon? I have read a few blogs and am a little concerned that I may not see very many pilgrims from Lisbon to Porto. I realize it won't be as busy as the Frances route but would feel safer knowing there are others walking at that time.

We're leaving on the 9th - arrive Lisbon on the 7th. We are walking slowly so unlikely to meet up.

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.
Hi Cel,
Yes I plan to leave Lisbon on 1st Sept. I will be walking with my son.
I am a bit concerned about the long (Brierley) stages in the first few days. But the country seems fairly flat unlike SJPDP to Roncesvalles. Maybe we'll see you in those first few days. Btw I also walked the Frances in Sept 2013.

I'm working on an itinerary that averages 20km per day (although there are some 25km days in the beginning). The Short stages guide prepared by Laurie has been most helpful. We probably will use transport to and from an end point some days (so we don't skip the walking but skip the long days). We may also stay in a hotel once or twice where no albergues are available. I am only up to Porto in my itinerary, but happy to share. PM me your email. I have found accommodation from fellow Peregrino blogs, Brierley and lists of Albergues.

Yes I would be interested in that. Can't remember how to PM in this forum.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

We are planning to start in Lisbon somewhere in the last week of August or first part of September. Don't worry about lack of pilgrims, there will be some! We walked via de la plata last September/October so have done loong stages with few pilgrims (but always a few)but it seems that there are many inventive ways to avoid that on this Camino if you want the shorter stages. We also walked the Camino Frances in September/October of 2013 where at times there were too many pilgrims. The magic thing about Caminos is that what you need is there pretty close to when you need it. Don't worry about lack of other pilgrims, it will be more than right!

I will be starting the Portugal coastal walk from Porto on August 17th
If anybody is around will like to meet.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Hi Lue. Excellent little quote. I'm hoping to start from Porto on the 28th September and spend 10 days walking
up to Santiago. Haven't decided on the precise route yet but the videos posted by Albertinho look excellent, especially
the Variante Espiritual

Hi Cel Williams: I arrive in Lisbon on Sept 2nd. I will be cycling this time to Santiago as I will be making several detours along the way. I should have a California flag on my bike. Good luck to you. Bom Caminho.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
The Cabo de Sao Vicente is attracting me ...

It seems the Rota Vicentina (part of GR11) could be used to reach Santiago do Cacem. And from there to Lisbon, it's about 100 km to include the use of a ferry. Does anybody have information to share about this?

Hi, Conques,
I remember that last year I was looking for information on the Rota Vicentina and found this "report" from people who have walked it. It may help you out a bit. http://www.fodors.com/community/europe/rota-vicentina-hike-report-october-2014.cfm

There has been some talk about a caminho route that would not go into Lisbon, but would stay on the east side of the Tejo/Tajo River until it got close to Santarem or wherever there is a good bridge crossing. I don't know if that's gone anywhere, but I think it would be a real shame to walk the full length of Portugal and not pass through the lovely city of Lisbon!

And I'm assuming Margaret's link will give the Rota Vicentina official site, but I have it bookmarked, so here it is:

http://www.rotavicentina.com/?lang=en

From Santiago do Cacem, I assume you would walk on the Troia Peninsula and then take the boat to Setubal, and from there you still have a ways to go to get to Lisbon, or are you thinking of some other route?

bom caminho, Laurie
