Hello Camino family. I have walked and biked several of the camino routes and am considering a week or so in August. Due to the hot weather in August, I'm veering towards staying in northern Spain hence the choice of Bilbao as a starting point. I've been on the Norte a few times so was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of other possible hidden gems in this area.

Many thanks

Chris

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
There is a route heading south from Bilbao to Burgos. I have taken it looking out of bus window. There are reasonably sized towns all along the way. It looks interesting, my hesitation would be the final stretch is through a preserve area with few trees and a rather stark desert-like landscape.

Thé Gronze map shows the Camino Olvidado from Bilbao. You could look at the forum threads for the Olvidado for information - link below. Some of the forum members who have walked it may respond.

And on the page below click on Otros Caminos to see the Gronze map.

Ignacio starts in Loiola and heads south to Manresa near Barcelona. It’s waymarked and somewhat supported.

There are several day hikes if you take the train to Plentzia, on the coast. Head either east or west for some great coastal views.

Oh, here’s another vote for the Olvidado — it is probably the camino with the most stages that are definitely describable as “mountainous”. It is well marked, its albergue system is growing, and it’s BEAUTIFUL.

If you do a forum search for Ender’s guide to the Olvidado, you can find both an English and Spanish version. The Spanish version is more up to date, especially in terms of more recent albergue openings.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
